Ace's Story

Meet Ace. Registered Quarter Horse (reg. as "Zan's Decka Cards"), and "Buffalo Soldier" horse. Yes, Ace was a member of a historical re-enactment group as well as being a really sweet guy. He is what is called a "red dun" The "dun" part is the dark stripe down his backbone from his dark mane to his dark tail. Both Nic and Ace are not of common coloring, as Duns and Medicine Hat Paints aren't real common in the equine world.  

He belonged to Jeff, a retired black rodeo cowboy who had won several really outstanding awards and accomplishments in the rodeo field (and for a couple of them... was the first black man to ever earn them). He didn't win them on Ace, however. Ace came along after he had retired from the rodeo.

Jeff always said...."Oh, if only I'd had Ace back in my rodeo days." Ace, however, became a "Buffalo Soldier" horse instead, as Jeff was president for several years of the Oregon Chapter of Buffalo Soldiers. Consequently Ace has had his share of prancing in parades saddled up in an authentic copy of an 1800's saddle and bridle and Jeff dressed in full Civil War uniform.  

Jeff is wonderful guy. I took care of Ace for him for a couple of years when his health wasn't very good. Both horses were stalled right next to each other so it was no trouble at all to take care of Ace too. Consequently Ace and Nic became not only bonded with each other, but Ace and I formed a bond too. When Jeff decided to sell Ace, (first time he had ever been without a horse for as long as he could remember) Jeff knew Ace would get the best of love and care... and that Ace would get to be with Nacoma. So he made a sweet deal for Shauna.

Jeff is anxious to see him when Shauna shows him. She has a horse show coming up soon. She's been working hard with both horses so we hope she does well. If not... it's not the end of the world. It will be the first show Ace has ever been in and the first show Nacoma has been in over seven years. So it will be just a fun thing.
